'Forest are not just timber mines, but a means of our survival'
Conservation of forests is very essential to maintain them in their natural state and to prevent depletion of its wealth. For minimum environmental balance, at least the present forest area of Nepal must be maintained and priorities must be given for its augmentation.
In Nepal, about 18% of land areas are being protected as national parks, wildlife reserves and conservation areas.
Forest are next natural resources of renewable energy. Because in developing countries like Nepal in the world most of the people are dependent on forest for their living in different ways, for example for fuel, fodder timber wood etc.
Moreover Forest are of great significance for clean environment because forest is the soul producer of oxygen and are even of great importance to balance the land ecosystem. Being integral component of hydrological cycle in the ecosystem, they are responsible for regulating rainfall, checking floods and soil erosion. Since, they are also responsible for the regional environment, they play a vital role in controlling micro-climate especially in Nepal where there is diversified climate and vegetation.
